Traditional Yoga vs Integral Yoga

Traditional yoga system describes the way of human evolution and liberation from the worldly life – Moksha, by using various methods and tantra practices. Traditional yoga has limited itself to the union with divine as its aim and discarded the material world.

Different paths of traditional yoga system like Tantra, Kundalini Yoga, Sankhya, Hathayoga, Rajayoga, Jnanayoga, Bhaktiyoga, Kashmiri Shaivism etc. were developed in India and practiced by using body or mind aspect with focus on Kundalini rising and Chakras opening to reach the liberation.

Traditional Yoga aims for ‘Moksha’ from the cycle of birth. The aim of Integral yoga is different and much more than getting liberation. Its aim is to first rise from the ordinary ignorant consciousness into the divine consciousness and then bring the supramental power of that divine consciousness down into the ignorance of mind, life, and body, for its transformation to manifest the Divine life on earth.

With a broad understanding of Traditional yoga and Integral yoga we can differentiate between the two yoga paths as below:

Integral Yoga is thus very different in its aim, methodology. It provides the complete path for evolution. Integral yoga is the way for manifestation of divine life in this material world and the yoga transformation.
